Los Cabos (Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo) has a different feel than the Caribbean side of Mexico: dramatic desert cliffs meeting the Pacific and Sea of Cortez, generally more upscale resort inventory, and a slightly more adult-leaning crowd, though plenty of resorts here do family travel well.

December through April also overlaps with gray whale migration season, and whale-watching trips out of Cabo are a genuine highlight, not just a tourist add-on.

Good for: couples’ getaways, milestone anniversaries, and groups wanting a slightly more upscale all-inclusive experience than the Cancún corridor typically offers.
